—Background
A new urban extension
We were appointed to master plan a new urban extension for Lovell and ABRI on the northern edge of Weymouth. Part of a larger strategic allocation, located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and which will include employment space and a community school, the scheme will provide 500 homes, including 150 affordable homes.

A contrast of enclosed streets with generous open spaces
The master plan is based on the parameters established at Outline stage as well as principles deduced by analysing the illustrative master plan. The latter included a strong grid pattern, significant green infrastructure and a limited number of axial routes, some extending in to the new employment land adjacent.
The architecture, urban design and landscape design was created collaboratively with the clients, Richard Sneesby Landscape and officers at Dorset Council. The aim was to combine and contrast enclosed streets with generous open space, to encourage walking and cycling, especially through links to existing schools and facilities, and to create an environment that related strongly to Greater Weymouth whilst also providing a positive new character area.
