Providing a high quality and inclusive space for leisure and social activities
We were appointed by regional contractor Stepnell Construction to prepare technical designs and the delivery of a new state of the art bespoke clubhouse for Parkstone Yacht Club. The project created a new leisure and recreational resource for the local community, which together with surrounding uses, provides a focus to significantly enhance footfall and social and economic activity in the area.
The ambitious new clubhouse integrates various sporting functions with various community and social activities into a new vibrant community space. It provides a number of waterfront and rooftop cafes for members and the public with an exhibition and teaching space complementing the appeal as a community leisure and cultural destination. The building provides opportunities for local schools and outreach groups to experience the joys of sailing for the first time.

Exceptional leisure and community spaces for Parkstone
The new clubhouse is a compact three storey building with a number of exciting and dramatic interior spaces all arranged to take advantage of the exceptional natural setting of Poole harbour.
The layout of the spaces provides a strong connection with the natural environment and setting of the site. The unique design incorporates overlapping planes and terraces with double and triple height interior spaces. A series of cantilevered balconies and terraces that extend over a waters edge, add to the impression of the building ‘floating’ above the water.
The project was a complex build with a number of technical challenges related to its location on the waters edge. The creation of dramatic interior spaces required careful coordination with the design team to ensure the club’s vision was delivered.
